Top Layer TopResponse Research Team Delivers Protection against Critical CitectSCADA Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Protection Pack with the Top Layer IPS 5500 Protects against Remote Attacks on SCADA Systems
Top Layer, the leading global provider of Network Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), today announced that its TopResponse research team has delivered a protection pack addressing the critical CitectSCADA Buffer Overflow Vulnerability (CVE-2008-2639). Top Layer customers can download and apply Protection Pack 2008-06-16-04 (or later) to put new protection against the CitectSCADA vulnerability into place.

CitectSCADA is a fully-integrated SCADA solution that provides an interface to collect data and control industry equipment, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Remote Terminal Units (RTU). CitectFacilities is facilities management software that supports management of multiple server clusters and a variety of protocols, including Konnex EIB.
The reported vulnerability could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system by sending a specially crafted CitectSCADA request.
